All ports require TWIC cards from carriers to be able to load and offload at the port. The Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) allows un-escorted access to the port to truck drivers, agents, longshoremen, terminal employees, and contractors. TWIC is federally mandated and enforced by the U.S. Coast Guard.
In case you are wondering if it's not easier for you to pick up the car yourself from the port, you should know that a TWIC card costs around $130 and it takes about 6-7 weeks to secure. So the easiest choice is to ask the help of a company which already has the Transportation Worker Identification Credential.
Preparing your car for international shipping
No matter where you ship your car to or from, there are some steps you have to take to make sure it is ready to be shipped. It is always a good idea to follow them if you want to avoid unpleasant surprises such as having your car damaged.
Clean your car - This applies to both the inside and outside, before and after shipment. The shipping company always assesses the condition of the vehicle to check for any damages that the car might have. A clean vehicle is easier to inspect and a clean inside means there will be no items that can shift during transport and cause damage.
Remove Modifications - You should remove any part of the vehicle that is not a stock component, such as spoilers, bike or luggage racks or exterior add-ons. You should also disable the alarm, so that the carrier can load and unload the vehicle without issues.
Do not fill up your tank - You should have no more than 1/4 tank of gas in the vehicle before shipping. Why? Firstly, because of the safety concern of hauling multiple vehicles with full tanks of gas. Even a tiny leak can cause major problems when it comes to long distances or international shipment. Secondly, all that extra gas weight adds up and weight equals cost in the shipping world.
We offer experienced and professional personnel with years of experience in this field and a safe method of loading and securing cars in containers. We load containers fast and efficiently, and we provide cost effective and safe shipping to and from the Port of Los Angeles.
